New Winery at Downsview

Over the winter the team at R&B Construction have been hard at work building our new Winery and Store and we have finally been able to move in. We’re really pleased with the end result and are looking forward to making wine in a much more spacious environment. The highest level of insulation has been specified to minimize temperature fluctuations of the wine throughout the year.Ā The winery is powered entirely by renewable energy via a 4.5kw PV solar array and 1000 amp hour battery bank. We’re just awaiting delivery of additional tanks, pupitres, stillages and a cooling system. Fortunately we were ordered all before the referendum when the exchange rate went South.

We’re looking forward to sharing our new facilities with friends, family and customers. Cheers šŸ™‚


Release of 2013 Anderida and Andred

We are please to announce the release of our 2013 Andred and Anderida

Anderida Sussex Sparkling Wine is our flagship product is made from the traditional sparkling wine blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grape varieties. Using the traditional method, the grapesĀ are lightly pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle before maturing on lees for at least eighteen months to produce a wine with a honey nose, and which leaves a gentle buttery taste on theĀ palate. . The name Anderida originates from the Ancient Forest of Anderida, which stretched right across South East EnglandĀ over a thousand years ago . The remains of this ancient forest is visible as you gaze towards the South Downs from Downsview.
Andred is our exciting limited production sparkling red wine made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Dornfelder. The red grapes are cold macerated to extract colour and flavour prior to pressing and initial fermentation. Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle and the wine is aged on its lees for at least 18 months prior to disgorging.

Harvest 2015

Despite a cool and wet August and first half of September, another decent Indian Summer saved the day. Harvest started on the 28th September and we finished on the 25th October. It was on odd season, leading to the chardonnay ripening later than the pinot’s. Normally our Chardonnay is first to ripen. Yields were down on 2014 but enough to fill all our tanks to capacity.

2014 Bacchus Bronze Medal Winner

We’re very pleased to announce that our newly released 2014 Bacchus has won a Bronze medal in the 2015 English and Welsh Wine of the year competition, Ā heldĀ at Devizes on 24th to 26th June.

The 6 Master of Wine judges described our wine as “Spicy peach nose, lime zest palate with hints of pepper, balanced, good length”.

This year there were 327 wines in the competition from 93 different entrants, making it by far the largest competitionĀ that has been held for the 600+ vineyard in the United Kingdom.

This is our first competition entry so we’re very pleased with the recognition of our hard work.
